Operation Christmas Child

SHOEBOX MINISTRY FOR CHILDREN

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Since 1993 OCC has collected and delivered more than 167 million shoeboxes to children in over 160 countries and territories. For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received.

Our goal for the Potter’s House is to collect enough items to fill 1,000 shoe boxes in 2019. Each month will feature a special request item to be collected. We will also be collecting empty shoe boxes. Donating items is easy! Just look for the OCC tree located in the front porch area. There you will find bins to leave your items. There is also a designated area to drop off empty shoe boxes. Using donated shoe boxes helps to defray the cost of having to purchase shoe boxes. Stay tuned for more information regarding packing parties that will occur in August and November.

Did you know that it costs $9 to ship a shoe box overseas? If you are interested in giving a monetary gift to help ease shipping costs, keep an eye out for OCC shipping donation envelopes. They will be located on our OCC tree. Simply choose an envelope and then return it at your earliest convenience.

OCC serves children ages 2-14. Each box needs a centralized “wow” item such as a stuffed animal, doll, or a deflated soccer ball and pump. The rest of the box will be filled with other items such as toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. Some suggested items include:

Toys (puzzles, jump ropes, cars, stickers, coloring books, etc.)
School Supplies (crayons, pens, pencils, notebooks, pencil sharpeners, etc.)
Hygiene Items (bar soap, washcloths, combs, toothbrushes, etc.)
Accessories (sunglasses, hair bands, jewelry, flip-flops, hats, socks, etc.)
Other Items (sewing kits, small tools, tape measures, fabric squares, solar calculators, small blankets, etc.)

Unfortunately, there are some items we cannot accept. These include used or damaged items, food items, toy knives or guns, military figurines, liquids or lotions (including toothpaste), balloons, medications or vitamins, aerosol cans, or breakable glass items.

  • April – Hats, Socks, Flip Flops, T-Shirts & Accessories (Hairbands, Sunglasses, etc.)
